BRAFA 2020: numbers and emotions

On February 2 in Brussels ended 65-й edition of BRAFA, one of the oldest art fairs in continental Europe. Record attendance (68 thousand), the increase in sales and international media attention — the main results of the event.

International and Russian elite in 2020 finally decided on a major tourist destination January to replace the skiing in Courchevel and Chamonix, it's art in Brussels. The fair traditionally is located in the exhibition center Tour & Taxis and even a little beyond: before entering BRAFA visitors are greeted by massive fragments of the Berlin wall. BRAFA is known for its eclecticism in the formation of the gallery of the pool, takes us back to the "collections only" the times of the Venetian Republic and the cabinets of curiosities of the Enlightenment. On the opening day buyers met Old Masters and African masks, medieval sculpture, collectible design market favourites Hugo Rondinone, fragments of a meteorite from Mars and sketches of Christo to the new project "wraps" the arc de Triomphe in Paris (from 600 thousand to 1.2 million euros). Completed a selection of props, who visited the set: wand Harry Potter and the claws superhero Wolverine.

a High level of sales, to the delight of the galleries and the organizers of the BRAFA 2020, was reached in all sections of the fair. On the first day of the Vernissage was sold obzansky tapestry manufactory "Tabard", created on the basis of the drawing by Wassily Kandinsky 1939. Using the adapted abstract compositions for the production of tapestries was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the owner of the Parisian gallery Denise rené with the head of a manufactory of "Tabar" and artist Victor Vasarely — one of the founders of the direction of op-арт. Figure Kandinsky, Victor Vasarely personally handed over Nina Kandinsky.

Belgian gallery Samuel Vanhoegaerden presented on its stand mono-экспозицию from the works of James Ensor — Belgian artist, is considered one of the founders of expressionism. In confirmation of this all the work of Sergei Shekhovtsova — series of figurines out of beer cans on the theme of Soviet sport — on the first day became the property of collectors from Belgium and the USA.
