TEFAF 2015: the most significant stands and large transactions

At the largest antique fair, held annually in the Netherlands Maastricht, exhibited newfound van Gogh drawing

Until Sunday, March 22 in the Netherlands, Maastricht is an antique fair TEFAF. At the time, a few decades ago, the current high reputation of the fair has laid the art of the Old Masters, especially Dutch painters of the XVII century, which today remains one of the main specializations of TEFAF. Some of the exhibitors this year, offering both classic and modern things. Among the interesting projects TEFAF,aimed at promoting contemporary art, is to call the project "Night fishing", curated by writer Sidney Picasso. Its essence is to provide close, on one stand works from several galleries — debutants TEFAF.

In the framework of a temporary exhibition at TEFAF presents 28 drawings of the Haarlem Museum Taylor, the oldest Museum in the Netherlands. Graphic works cover a time span from the Renaissance to the twenty-first century. It works by such masters as Michelangelo, Raphael, Hendrik Goltzius, Jan van Goyen, Claude Lorrain and Jean-Антуан Watteau.

Fair TEFAF this year, as never before, rich rediscovered works by famous masters. Among them should be called early work of Joshua Reynolds "Dionysius the Areopagite, a noble resident of Athens and a disciple of the Apostle Paul," whose whereabouts remained unknown since 1905; gallery Lowell Libson exposes it for 950 thousand euros.

But the main sensation of TEFAF this year was the appearance of the figure, recently attributed to Vincent van Gogh. Watercolour "the Mill of Alphonse Daudet in Fontvieille", created in June 1888, and perfectly preserved, presented at the stand of Dickinson with a valuation of approximately $ 10 million. The key evidence of the authenticity of the works were pencil notes on the back. It turned out that they were made by Johanna van Gogh, the widow of the artist's brother Theo and one of the organizers of the first exhibitions of Vincent. On the back of the picture with the mill were found the numbers corresponding to the numbers in the two lists of the works of van Gogh, made by Joanna in 1902 and 1912. The last time the drawing was exhibited in Germany in 1910, and then was lost in private European collections of more than a hundred years.

Already contains information about the number of transactions. Belgian art-дилер Vervoordt Axel (Axel Vervoordt) in the first days of the fair, sold a work of Japanese post-war artist of Jiro Yoshihara, the founder of artists Association "gutai". The exact transaction amount is not known, but the painting "untitled" 1968 was initially exhibited over 550 thousand euros.

On the second day of the fair, the gallery of Thaddeus Ropak (Paris and Salzburg), which is placed in the framework of the project "Night fishing," sold one of two works by Georg Baselitz (Georg Baselitz), "Red torso" (1993), for 1.4 million euros.

Gallery Marlborough Contemporary (London) sold a new work, "Lemon Hound" (2015) popular artist Jason Brooks. The work, which was exhibited for 60 thousand pounds, was bought by a collector from Belgium.

At the stand of Wartski, which specializes on the works of decorative-прикладного and jewelry, signed several deals with the works of Carl Faberge and Cartierparticular sold the spoon for caviar, made for Faberge agate, gold and sapphires.

Fabio Rossi of London's Rossi gallery & Rossi announced the sale of the statue of a sitting Buddha in the early XVIII century, gilded bronze with traces of paint approximately 350 thousand dollars to the Asian collector; sculpture Tirthankara XI–XII centuries from the Northern regions of India in around 300 thousand dollars to a British collector; sculptures of the goddess Tara of the XI century, of black stone, coming from the North-восточных parts of India approximately 85 thousand dollars to the American buyer.

Among the most significant results TEFAF for Roman galleries Alessandra di Castro Antichità notes deal with the sculpture "Laocoon" by the Italian masters of the XVII century, Domenico Viggiani (Domenico Piggiani). The exact amount of the transaction the gallery was not disclosed.

In a Paris gallery Applicat-Prazan to the new owner moved a painting Nicolas de Stael "Agrigento" in 1954. And Amsterdam's Gallery Delaive sold "Blue sponge" by Yves Klein, 1961.

From the graphs it is worth noting the work of Giovanni Antonio Guardi "Conquest Teero", which was bought at the stand of gallery Francesca Antonacci/Damiano Lapiccirealla in the first minutes after the opening of the fair.
