In Jerusalem appear monumental installation Anish Kapoor and Olafur Eliasson
Artists are preparing a work for the Israel Museum
Jerusalem Israel Museum commissioned two new installations, "Prime Minister" which is scheduled for the end of July this year. It will coincide with the opening of the museum, which is currently under reconstruction.
Installations comply with Britain's Anish Kapoor (Anish Kapoor) and Dane Olafur Eliasson (Olafur Eliasson), which, without doubt, are the most fashionable artists working in the "monumental" genre. The amazing design that they create, together with a team of scientists and engineers do not even require the analogy with modern art and works of "starhitektorov» (star architect), such as Zaha Hadid (Zaha Hadid), Herzog and De Meuron (Herzog & De Meuron) and Daniel Libeskind (Daniel Libeskind).
This art does not indicate unfairness or the strangeness of this world, and brings to his unseen objects and environments, which give people various unusual experiences. "Provocations" in it, neither per gram, so artists often rely on large-scale urban projects. In January it was reported that of London seems to have decided to entrust Kapoor build for the Olympics 120 -meter (!) sculpture . A couple of years ago in all news shows, artificial waterfalls, which are built Eliasson in New York. Major museums like those authors and zhaluyut: any of their show - it is always an attraction. Think of a project Eliasson for Turbine Hall Tate Modern gallery: artist hung there huge man-made sun. In his retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Francisco were among other things, artificial rain and the room, "colors" all that in them is, in different colors. And Anish Kapoor traveled around the museum by car with red paint .
product Kapoor, which will be on display at the Israel Museum, is a variant of the famous sculpture Cloud Gate (the people "Beans"), located in Millennium Park in Chicago. The surface work will be mirrored, and reflected all be upside down. Height of sculpture - five meters. It is dedicated to the former mayor of Jerusalem Teddy Kollek (Teddy Kollek), who died in 2007.
Installation Eliasson will adorn the walls of the underground corridor, which connects the museum building. It consists of 300 monochrome paintings (5 x 240 cm), which represent the whole spectrum of colors distinguishable by the human eye. Length of work, which is given the title "When does a rainbow", is 15 meters.
Director James Snyder (James Snyder) called both artists "old friends" of the museum - of their work included in the collection. The cost of installation, he refused to talk. It is known that one of the sponsors of the project Kapoor was the widow of Brazilian billionaire Lily Safra (Lily Safra), which is rumored to be a buyer of the most expensive work of all that has ever been sold at auction - "walking man I» Alberto Giacometti (Alberto Giacometti) .
Israel Museum was founded in 1965. Among its treasures - the oldest biblical manuscripts and the world's largest collection of Judaica. In addition, the museum exhibited the works of old masters, Impressionists, Masters of the first half of the twentieth century and contemporary artists. Reconstruction, which allocated $ 100 million, will increase exhibition space twice.
