Peasants after Suprematism

Before 1 July 2007 in the new gallery «PROUNI», located in the Center of Contemporary Art «Winery» (http://www.winzavod.ru, 4 th Syromyatnichesky Lane, 1, p. 6) last exhibition «The Peasants. Postsuprematichesky epic ».

The most innovative in the world in the direction of Russian art - a favorite theme of the exhibition curator, renowned expert Marina Loshak. On display are about seventy primarily works of artists Malevich's circle from the end of the 1920's - 1930's. Nicholas Suetin, Anna Leporskaya, Eduard Krimmer, Konstantin Rozhdestvensky - pupils and associates the great innovator. Items from private collections reveal the theme of «Second Peasant cycle», in which he works and his students have figurative elements, while preserving the general formula language. People-faces, crosses, icons posture, frightened - do not be afraid, sheaves - not just the sheaves. All of these puzzles a second farm cycle. Malevich left the issue unresolved, allowing descendants to think over it. What is central? Cross? Cross unites Constantine Christmas song with the characters of Nicholas Suetin. But to what extent it is receiving, and in what sense? Another recognizable theme - sheaves, haystacks Suetin and Christmas. Symbols of what? There are views that the sheaves - stylized gravestones. Or something more?

In order to do the same intellectual path followed by students of the maestro, a visit to the exhibition, it is clear enough. For many this is, of course, will push for an independent inquiry into the subject. But even without such training is clear: not on agriculture, they thought, and not painted peasants. Stubbornly thirties, obviously, has demanded camouflage and ciphers. And farmers might be forced to only one of the most sophisticated thematic fields, necessary to implement these ciphers. They - ciphers, symbols, codes - were almost the only means of relatively safe expression and transfer their ideas to future generations.
