Sychev was born in 1945 in Kazan. Photography was carried away, as a student. After graduating from the institute, the year he worked as an engineer at Baikonur, and then moved to Moscow. In 1972, Sychev began his career photographer. He and his wife, poet Aida Khmeleva included in the informal circles of artists and often held exhibitions in his apartment. Sychev was one of the main "fotoletopistsev" Nonconformist. Among his works are pictures of the famous "bulldozer exhibition", disbanded by the authorities on Sept. 15, 1974. He also managed to gather a great collection of works by their friends and acquaintances.
For Life photographer was earning, making pictures for album covers various musical artists. In 1979, he and his family left the Soviet Union and settled in France. Sychev was the first Soviet photographer, vyvezshim abroad its huge archive. Work on the lives of ordinary people in the Soviet Union, brought him huge success - the pictures were published in magazines such as Paris Match and the LIFE; in 1980, has released album "Russian". At the same time Sychev made friends with a famous photographer Helmut Newton (Helmut Newton), who helped him get in the magazine Vogue. Incidentally, Sychev was the first photographer to enter into this influential magazine, long-term contract! In all he worked at Vogue for two years.
During his long career Sychev had the opportunity to collaborate with many famous publications. He shot politicians, writers, movie stars, Centerfold ... But the photographer's favorite characters, as he confessed in an interview on "Nostalgia", are "ordinary people who simply walk down the street, and, of course, artists. Photographs Sychev can see not only Russian but also foreign artists - for example, in 1986 he took the young American artist Keith Haring (Keith Haring), painted the Berlin Wall.
Within Biennale of Contemporary Art will be arranged two exhibitions Sychev: «Reportage. France "and" Journalism. Russia 1970 ". The first exhibition will be held in the Gallery of the Foundation for Community Encouragement of the Arts ", the second - in the State Tretyakov Gallery in Krymsky Val. "Russia 1970" is divided into two parts: "Everyday life of the Soviet 1970" and "Chronicle of unofficial art. They will be presented about a hundred shots.
