born in a family of merchants. Original art education in the city of Yaroslavl drawing classes at the PA Romanowski. In 1896-1908 he studied at MUZHVZ at KN Gorsky, A. M. Corina, SD Miloradovich NA Kasatkin, A. Arkhipov, L. Pasternak, since 1903 - in the workshop by Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin. In 1902-1903 for drawing and sketch small awarded silver medals in 1907 - a large silver medal for the painting "In a market day (the trading day)." Released from the academy with the title of the class artist.

lived in Moscow. He worked in the field of landscape and genre painting, still in their works the traditions of Russian realistic art. In the summer months 1903-1920 went to work on the Volga, under Kineshma. From 1896 - participant of exhibitions (student's, MUZHVZ). Exhibited his works at exhibitions of the Union of Russian Artists (1910-1918, 1922-1923, from 1917 - member of the association, in 1908-1923 - head of exhibitions), Yaroslavl Art Society (1910-1914) and others. In 1916, for the painting "at the carousel" was awarded first prize in the Moscow Society of Art Lovers.

Since 1919 he worked in the Commission for the Protection of works of art and antiquities at the Moscow Soviet, was one of the organizers of the 3rd Proletarian Museum. Since 1925 - Member and exhibitor AHRR, one of the founders of the Association of realist artists (from 1927). Participated in many exhibitions of Soviet art abroad: traveling exhibitions in the U.S. (1924-1925) and Japan (1926-1927), exhibitions in Cologne (1929), New York, Philadelphia, Boston (1929).

taught drawing and sketching in Moscow schools (1902-1918, 1920-1942), the Moscow Regional Art School Memory of 1905 (1945-1954).
