Son woodcarvers and icon painter, who had icon-painting studio. Initial artistic skills acquired under the guidance of his father, then in the icon workshop Ivanov in Kiev. He studied at the Kyiv Drawing School NI Murashko (1876-1882) by IK Budkevich and H. Platonov. In 1879-1882 was a tutor in the Kyiv Drawing School. In 1881 he received the title of IAH teacher of drawing in the lower schools. He continued his education at IAH (1882-1884) at VD Orlovsky, in 1883 was awarded the small and large incentive medal for work on full-scale class. " In 1884, for health reasons had to leave school with a certificate for the title of teacher of drawing and return to Kiev.

worked as a genre painter, portraitist. The works of the artist reproduced in magazines "Pictorial Review," Journal of the Fine Arts "," World illustration "and others. Since 1891 - an honorary associate of the Academy free IAH, in 1901 received the title of IAH teacher of drawing in secondary schools, in 1904 awarded the title of academician.

In 1884-1900 served as senior lecturer Kyiv Drawing School NI Murashko. One of the founders and a teacher of the Kiev Art School, he taught at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute.
