There is very little information about biography of the artist. Vasily Grandi studied in the Drawing School under the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts (OPKh). He studied under the guidance of N. C. Roerich, A.A. Rylov, and N.S. Samokish.

Vasily Grandi lived in Moscow. He was engaged in easel, monumental and decorative arts. He also painted landscapes, genre and battle scenes. Grandi created pictorial plans for dioramas in the State Historical Museum and the Museum of history of Moscow. He was involved in restoration of the panoramas The Siege of Sevastopol and The Battle of Borodino.

Since 1915 he took part in many exhibitions. His works were exposed in the exhibitions of the I. E. Repin Society of artists (1929), the group Zhar-Tsvet (“Fiery flower”, 1929) and others.

Works by Vasily Grandi are in many museum collections, including the State Historical Museum, the Museum of history of Moscow, the Museum-Panorama Borodino Battle and others.
