In 1903 she graduated from high school Muravyova. From 1898, he attended classes Drawing School Society for the Encouragement of Arts, where he studied with PG Myasoedova. In 1906, continued her education at a private studio YS Goldblatt. In 1911 and 1913 together with her husband, artist VI Matveev, traveled through Europe. Simultaneously studied classical Japanese art, especially the black and white ink painting "suyboku-ha". She worked in the field of easel painting and lithography.

From 1924 she taught Russian language and literature at the private Waseda University (1924-1937, 1946-1958), Tokyo Institute of Foreign Languages (1927-1945, 1946-1958) and the University of Hokkaido (1955-1956 ). She wrote articles on Russian art for the Japanese encyclopedias and reference books. Bubnov solo exhibitions were held in 1960 in Tbilisi, in 1961 - in Moscow, Kharkov and Sukhumi, in 1962 - in Vilnius and Leningrad, in 1963 - in Baku, Yerevan, Lviv, in 1966 - in Dushanbe and Sukhumi, 1967 - in Yerevan, in 1972 - Tokyo, in 1975 and 1977 - in Moscow, in 1976 and 1982 - in Sukhumi in 1981 - in Leningrad. In 1982 the artist was awarded Japan's highest award - the Order of the Precious Crown IV degree.
