Born into a peasant family. In 1912-1914 - IAH pensioner in Germany, France and Italy. In Italy, worked on the painting "Orgy in the apartments of Pope Alexander VI Borgia." Upon his return some time taught at the Kharkiv Art College (1914).

lived in Moscow. He worked mainly in the field of historical painting, portraits, genre paintings.
