From a family of rural teachers. Initial art education has received in the Studio Л. М. Диаманта in Nizhny Novgorod. He studied at the Kazan art school (1908-1913) Н. И. Фешина, the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts (1913-1918) В. Е. Маковского.

he Lived in Nizhny Novgorod — Gorky (1925). He painted portraits, landscapes, genre paintings; turned to the themes of industrialization: the construction of the Gorky automobile plant, Sormovo shipyard. In 1937 at the exhibition-конкурсе dedicated А. М. Горькому received first prize for the best portrait of the writer. In 1957, he was awarded the title of honored art worker of the RSFSR.

From 1908 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited at the exhibitions of "Community of artists" (1917) in Petrograd, AHRR — akhr (1926-1929) in Gorky and Moscow, exhibitions of works of revolutionary and Soviet themes (1930), reporting of works by artists, seconded to the regions of the industrial building and collective farms (1931) in Moscow. From 1934 — a member of the Union of artists of the USSR; in 1945-1948 @Gorky mdas, the Chairman of the Union of artists of the USSR. In 1930-60-х participant of numerous all-Union, Republican and regional exhibitions. His personal exhibitions were held in Nizhny Novgorod — bitter (1925, 1952, 1957, 1962).
