Of noble family, a descendant of an old family of Moldavian rulers Chegodar-Bodareskul.

graduated from the Odessa School of Drawing. In 1869-1873 he studied at the IAH in the class of historical painting at TA Neff, P. Shamshina, VP Vereshchagin. In 1871 he was awarded two large and two small silver medals for drawings and sketches from nature in 1873 - a small gold medal for the program "David played the harp before Saul." In 1875, for the program "The Apostle Paul explains the tenets of faith in the presence of King Agrippa, his sister Bernice, and the proconsul Festa" awarded the class artist 1-st degree, without the awarding of a large gold medal.

lived in Ukraine, mainly in Odessa, as well as in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Traveled to Switzerland (1895) and France (1895-1896). He worked in the field of monumental and easel painting. Engaged paintings of Christ the Savior in Moscow, performed cardboard for interior mosaics Church of the Resurrection (Savior on Spilled Blood) in St. Petersburg. Participated in the design of the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, for whom he wrote fourteen portraits of Russian and foreign composers.

I created portraits, landscapes, genre paintings of content. In 1880 (and 1918, with interruptions) has exhibited his works at exhibitions TPHV (since 1884 - Member of the Association), the Moscow Society of Lovers of Fine Arts (1881-1898, intermittently), the Association of South Russian Artists (1900-1919, with interruptions, from 1900 - Member of the Association), as well as at international exhibitions in Paris (1889), Chicago (1893), Rome (1913), the All-Russia industrial and agricultural exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod (1896). In 1908 "in recognition of the artistic field" was awarded the title of academician. Held solo exhibitions in Odessa (1883) and Petersburg (1913).

Bodarevsky belongs to a prominent masters of Russian art in the second half of the XIX century. In early works (1880) was close to the Wanderers, in subsequent years away from tradition toward peredvizhnicheskih "salon" academic.

Bodarevsky works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum and others.
