As Assistant Vasnetsov participated in the painting of the Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev, was an assistant MAVrubel in painting St. Cyril's Church in Kiev. Studied at MUZHVZ (end 1880), IAH (1891-1894). During the years of study was awarded two small and one large silver medals, in 1894 received the title of class artist for the painting "Girl with flowers».

In 1895 invited by I. Repin for teaching in an art studio Tenisheva in St. Petersburg. In 1896-1900 headed the Smolensk drawing school and taught in it.

lived in Moscow (1900). He worked as a genre painter, landscape painter. Participated in exhibitions of society "Link" (1917), a trade union painters (1918), Mug artists Zamoskvorechye (1923), the Society of Artists. Ilya Repin (1927, 1928) in Moscow and others. Many traveled to Russia to collect ethnographic materials. He worked as a restorer at the Tretyakov Gallery.
