Ekaterina Goldinger was adopted as a daughter by famous family of doctors Okunkovs — Goldinger. She studied at the faculty of history and philology in Moscow University (1918–1921). Goldinger studied painting and drawing under the guidance of K. A. Savitsky (1896) and L. O. Pasternak in Moscow, L.-O. Merson and F. Cormon in Paris.

Goldinger lived in Moscow. She painted portraits, landscapes, still lifes, genre compositions; she worked a lot in pastel and watercolor. She was engaged in book illustration. In 1910s Goldinger created illustrations to fairy-tales by the Brothers Grimm, H.-Ch. Andersen, to Arabic fairy-tales by the order of the publishing house I. Knebel.

After October revolution Goldinger was engaged in the National commissariat of education (Narkompros), in the commission of inventory of the nationalized art collections. In 1923–1939 she was curator at the French section of art gallery in the Museum of Fine Arts — the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Later she worked in Kuskovo Museum Estate.

Since 1904 Goldinger took part in exhibitions. She exposed her works at the exhibitions of Moscow Society of Art Lovers (1904–1905), Moscow Association of Artists (1905–1918, 1934), the Union of Russian Artists (1910, 1911, 1913–1915, 1922–1923) in Moscow, Spring exhibitions in halls of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1904, 1905, 1906), the New Society of Artists (1910, 1917) in St. Petersburg — Petrograd. During Soviet times, she participated in the 2nd exhibition of paintings of the Professional Union of painters (1918), the 4th state exhibition of painting (1919), exhibition 22 artists (1927), art exhibition for the 10th anniversary of October Revolution in Moscow (1928), the exhibition of painting, sculpture and industrial art in Ryazan (1918), the 1st state exhibition of art and science in Kazan (1920), the exhibition Artists of the RSFSR for 15 years in Leningrad (1932–1933) and many others. Goldinger took part in exhibitions abroad, in particular in the World exhibition in Rome (1910), the 14th International art exhibition in Venice (1924). The personal exhibitions of Goldinger were held in Moscow in 1961 and in 1971.

Goldinger wrote monograph on art of I. P. Argunov and memoirs Difficult Way (some parts were published in the collection With Cross and Without, Moscow, 1997).
