"The aristocratic portrait in Russia of the XVIII — beginning of the XX century"
Exhibition in the State Historical Museum presents the 120 scenic portraits painted by Rokotov, Levitsky, Borovikovsky, Tropinin, Serov and other
Aristocratic portrait is an important part of the collection of the Historical Museum. The portraits of the ancient Russian birth, and a new nobility was created "for the memory of your offspring..." not only the best domestic capital and foreign painters, but also a modest farmstead artists.
the richness of the collection of the Historical Museum allows you to make an excursion into the past — in the "history in faces" and the magic of the artistic image. Gallery of 120 beautiful portraits presented at the exhibition were mainly from the nationalized generic portrait galleries of the princes Kurakin, Golitsyn, bariatinsky, Dolgoruky, Shahovskoy's, ancient family of the Naryshkins, Glebov‐Streshneva and other representatives of the nobility.
Among the authors of works: outstanding Russian masters — F. S. Rokotov, D. G. Levitsky, V. L. Borovikovsky, V. A. Tropinin; earned European fame by the fashionable French portrait painters of the mid-nineteenth century — S. müller, F. K. Vinterhalter; brilliant domestic virtuosos salon Grand portrait — K. E. Makovsky and I. K. Makarov, classic Russian aristocratic portrait by V. A. Serov.
the exhibition is only represented in the collections of Russian museums portrait of count Zubova S. P. work of the famous Parisian portraitist Giovanni Boldini, as well as high quality copies of unpreserved couple portraits count Saltykov on the original L. E. Vigee‐Lebrun and the count K. G. Razumovsky in the original P. rotary. For the first time as a whole exhibited a series of portraits of the family of the princes Shahovskoy's‐Golinski, executed by the artist F. A. Talovym in 1810-20 years, originating from the estate of Belaya Kolp ' Moscow province.
Portrait of count A. P. Bestuzhev‐Ryumin 1757-1758. —, the only known work of a talented portraitist Ivan Rodionov — was acquired by the Museum in 2015, and exhibited with the video, revealing the stages of research and restoration of this rare portrait of Russian school of painting.
the Exposition is accompanied by sculptural portraits and photographs of manor interiors.
the exhibition presents works of art from the private collection of A. G. Egorov.
