currently in the Tretyakov gallery kept nine of master paintings created in different periods of creativity. They are all represented in the exhibition. Complements the exhibition the portrait of S. K. Zaryanko brush of his student A. M. Kolesov.

Sergey Konstantinovich Zaryanko was born in the village of Lyady, Mogilev province in the family of a serf. After receiving his freedom, his father, together with his family moved to St.-Петербург. In 1834 S. K. Zaryanko as a volunteer was to visit the Imperial Academy of arts. Simultaneously, he studied under A. G. Venetsianov. In 1838 S. K. Zaryanko received the title of class (free) artist. In 1843 "for art and knowledge in picturesque perspective." he was awarded the title of academician, and in 1850-м he became Professor of historical and portrait painting.

Portraits Zaryanko, perfectly convey the similarity, produced a great impression on his contemporaries and was sought after by the customers. According to the artist, the most truthful reproduction of nature brought closer to the work to the truth. A major role in the achievement of the task played a subtle tonal black and white shading to help identify "sculptural volume" forms. The painter has skillfully reproduced the texture of the material properties — velvet, lace, satin, moire, gold embroidery, very carefully approached to the choice of accessories.

Zaryanko contributed to the development of national schools of painting not only as an artist but also as the author of several works on art theory and teaching methods. He taught drawing at different schools. In 1856, the artist received the post of inspector and senior Professor at the Moscow school of painting and sculpture, where he studied V. G. Perov, V. V. Pukirev, I. M. Prianishnikov, V. E. makovskii.

In 1860-е years thank Zaryanko began to fade. At this time, the arena of artistic life, a new generation of artists, and with it emerged a new aesthetic of critical realism. But Zaryanko could not and did not want to change their current manner, and wanted only to improve on the once chosen path. He continued a lot and work hard, but his new works were criticized for naturalistic and artisanal approach to nature. Frustrated by the cold reception of critics and the public, who survived his glory, Zaryanko died in Moscow at age 52 on 20 December 1870.
