Russian avant-garde Pompidou Centre
At the Centre Pompidou (Paris) opened the exhibition "Chagall, Lissitzky, Malevich. Russian avant-garde in Vitebsk (1918-1922)" on the activities of the people's art school in Vitebsk under the direction of Marc Chagall
In the exhibition you can see over 250 works of art, archival documents and photographs from Russian and foreign collections.
In the midst of Civil war, Chagall was able to enlist the support of the authorities and to open in Vitebsk people's art school, training in which is in the form of free workshops began in January 1919-го. Teachers become outstanding masters of the avant-garde as Kazimir Malevich, El Lissitzky, Vera Ermolaeva. Thus, the school became a laboratory of revolutionary art.
Alas, it lasted not for long: in early 1922-го had serious financial problems, so the spring issue of that year and remained the only one (among the graduate students was, in particular, Nikolai Suetin and Ilya Chashnik). However, the activity of the school became an important stage, without which it is impossible today to imagine the history of Russian art.
Work for the Paris exhibition provided the State Tretyakov gallery, museums of Minsk, Vitebsk, Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven, Netherlands), and European and American private collectors.
Russian Museum, sent to France more than 20 works of art. Among them, "Suprematism (Supremus No. 58)" (1916) by Kazimir Malevich, "Venus" (1911-1912), Mikhail Larionov, "non-objective composition" (1916) Olga Rozanova, the work of Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, Vera Ermolaeva, Ivan Puni, Vladislav Strzeminski, Nicholas Suetin.
the Exhibition will run until July 16, then will move to the Jewish Museum of new-Йорка where it can be seen from 14 September to 2 January 2019-го.
