"Russian style. From historicism to modernism" at the Museum of arts and crafts
20 October national Museum of decorative-прикладного and folk art (Moscow, Delegatskaya, 3) opens a new permanent exhibition
In modern Museum space — in the main house of the estate Osterman — of the exposition, reveal the stages of formation and development of Russian-style decorative-прикладном art from the period of "historicism" 1830-70-х years before the "neo-Russian style" – the essential facets of Russian art Nouveau (1880-е — 1900-е years). The exhibition will feature unique pieces of Russian art from the Museum's collection: weaving and embroidery, items of metal, wood, ceramics made by masters of Abramtsevo and Talashkino, as well as other workshops and crafts (1830-е — 1900-е years).
Among the most important exhibits of the exposition: set of glasses the Imperial glass factory; silver salt shaker decorated in peasant embroidery jewelry company Pavel Ovchinnikov; pieces of furniture according to the sketches of Elena Polenova; majolica fireplace Mikhail Vrubel "the Meeting of Volga Svyatoslavich and Mikula Selyaninovich"; as well as the work of Viktor Vasnetsov, Alexander Golovin, Sergey Malyutin, Nikolay Roerich and other artists of the Abramtsevo circle and Talashkino workshops.
"Russian style. From historicism to modernism" — wide panorama of artistic trends, movements and schools, which developed in the late XIX — the early twentieth century in Europe and was associated with the largest artistic style — modern. It was a single process for European and world culture of that era.
It is in the art Nouveau style originated national-романтические directions associated with the search of identity, uniqueness and characteristics of national culture and art. The inspiration of the artists in the historic national traditions, folk art and everyday life of the people. The works of Russian artists, reinterpreted national traditions, called in Europe the wave of interest in Russian culture, fine and decorative-прикладному art, theatre, fashion.
