Today in the Magadan regional Museum opened a major exhibition of Shuhaeva "Theatre — territory of freedom" at the festival "Territory of Magadan"

Presents works of Vasily Shukhaev (1887-1973) from public and private collections in Russia — both known and never before exhibited paintings, drawings, theatre productions sketches and book illustrations. The project was prepared jointly by the Moscow Museum of modern art and the Magadan regional Museum of local lore.

Vasily Shukhaiev lived a long, complex and eventful life that fully reflects all the dramatic conflicts of Russian history of the twentieth century. In his personal and creative fate of the artist intertwined history, politics, culture, and artistic life of tsarist and Soviet Russia, the Russian Diaspora, the Kolyma prison and Sunny Georgia. Geography living space of artist covered such cities as Moscow, where he was born and graduated from the Stroganov school, St-Петербург, where the two artists studied at the Imperial Academy of fine arts where the biennial went to a pensioner's trip to Italy to perfect his skills. In Petrograd began his artistic-педагогическая activity, which continued years later, in Paris, and then in Leningrad and Tbilisi. Finland 1920 became the first country of emigration Shukhaev. It was followed by France, after 14 years in which the artist returned to his homeland, spent two happy and fruitful years in Leningrad and Moscow, and in 1937 was arrested on 58-й article ("for counter-revolutionary activities") and exiled to Kolyma. Since 1947, for a quarter of a century, the two artists lived and worked in Georgia, summers in the village of tsikhisjvari Borjomi district, and in 1960-е years — have friends in Moscow, Nikolina Gora.

One of the main features of the exhibition are theatrical sketches, created by V. I. Shukhaev in Magadan in the most dramatic period of his life — in the period of his detention in the North-Восточном correctional-трудовом camp and work in the Dal. Together with other reconveyance and civilian artists, actors, Directors and musicians Vasily Shukhaiev was one of the originators of the Magadan regional musical-драматического theatre named after M. Gorky, officially opened on 5 September 1941. In 1945, at the end of the sentence, the two artists continued to serve as chief artist-постановщиком another two years.

Work in the theatre, essentially, saved the artist's life and kept him in the profession. Evidence of this are the works by Shukhaev in the next twenty-five years in Georgia and the suburbs. In addition to the theatrical section, and the exhibition includes unique sagindie drawings Shuhaeva 1910-х years, beautiful classical still lifes and landscapes of France 1920-х years, works created by the artist after his return from exile, as well as books, designed in France.
