On the Crimean Shaft tomorrow, March 15, opens to the public exhibition of Vasily Nikolayevich Chekriguina (1897-1922). The exhibition includes about 70 graphic sheets, most of them will be shown for the first time

Vasili Nikolaevich Chekrygin (1897-1922) — is one of the most striking and dramatic figures in twentieth-century art. Artist-новатор and art theorist, he was the leader and inspirer of legendary Association "Art-жизнь" ("Makovets"). Chekriguina life was tragically cut short 25 years, when the artist was at the peak of creative activity, but he managed to declare himself a brilliant draughtsman, the painter, deep thinking about man, life and death, about the nature of art.

From an early age, the artist dreamed of creating frescoes and in recent years have tried to implement their monumental plans, but they remained unfulfilled. On the eve 120-летия from the date of the artist's birth, the Tretyakov gallery presents the drawings of the master series "Uprising", "Shot", "Face", "Orgy", as well as unique papers on the theme of "raise dead", many of which are on display for the first time.

the Tretyakov gallery houses one of the finest Museum collections of graphics, V. N. Chekriguina with more than 450 sheets. It included 30 first-class drawings, received in 1923 from the widow of the artist V. V. Kotova-Бернштам sheets from the collections of G. K. Kostaki, and A. A. Sidorov and family of the artist. The exhibition includes about 70 of the best works, most of which exhibited for the first time.

Initial artistic training Chekrygin was held in the icon painting school at the Kievo-Печерской monastery, and at age 13 was already enrolled at the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and architecture. His talent was highly appreciated, and he was released from tuition fees. The Moscow school of painting Chekrygin met and became friends with L. by Reginam (son of the famous architect F. Shekhtel), communicated with D. Burlyuk and Vladimir Mayakovsky. Along with Reginam Chekrygin illustrated first book of Mayakovsky "I", which will also be presented at the exhibition. M. Larionov, with whom Chekrygin also met in College, invited him to participate in the exhibition No. 4 (1913), where Chekrygin introduced a series of cubist and abstract works. Some of them had names that are not typical for works of the avant-garde "of the Soul, the transmutation of flesh into spirit." In 1915 Chekrygin volunteered for the front. Back in 1917, in Moscow, he was actively involved in the artistic life. Chekrygin was looking for an alternative to avant-garde on the basis of classical art and religious philosophy.

Presented at the exhibition graphics Chekriguina the late 1910-х — beginning 1920-х years became the top of the master. A turning point in Russian history: the time of wars and revolutions, have influenced the worldview of the artist, and the feeling of belonging to historical events are reflected in his work. In the last three years of his life the master was hard at work on sketches for compositions intended for his frescoes, "Genesis" and "Resurrection of the dead." For a short time he established about 1 500 drawings. However, in the post-revolutionary time, the project was doomed to failure. Meanwhile in sketches and multi-figure compositions in separate pieces to them can be traced some common figurative solution. Collected together in the exhibition space the images give an idea of the significant scale of the artist.

"Genesis". The first drafts of the murals date back to 1920, when V. N. Chekrygin was performed by a series of drawings on historical, modern and mythological subjects. An important place in the exposition is a monumental graphic works on the theme of "Rebellion", "Execution" and "Persons" testifying to the tragic perception of the artist events of the revolutionary and post-revolutionary years. General "existential" picture images complement the pictures with scenes from the life of Bohemians and bourgeoisie, portrait sketches, lists of the series "Orgy" and "Crazy" — complex multi-figure compositions, built on contrasts of light and shade. All the characters exist in continuous development disappear and are manifested in the flashing of bright and dark spots.

"the resurrection of the dead". In late 1921, V. N. Chekrygin was fond of teaching religious thinker and one of the founders of Russian cosmism N. F. Fyodorov's "Philosophy of common cause". The thoughts of a philosopher about the immortality of the individual shocked the artist. Fedorov, Chekrygin dedicated the manuscript of "the Cathedral of the risen of the Museum." The artist began to work on the realization of their new plan — creating monumental frescoes on the universal resurrection and the cosmic future of humanity. Figuratively embodying the idea of the philosopher about the resurrection of all when-либо lived on earth, not just the righteous, the artist depicts figures in violent motion — or majestically "rising", or still "backordered" from the captivity of death. Masterfully using expressive graphics language — line or spot, the contrast of light and shadow — V. N. Chekrygin conveys the mysterious atmosphere of the resurrection, highlighting rising from the darkness of the nothingness of human figures ("Composition with lanterns"). At its best leaves Chekrygin, trying to create "purged the image of an enlightenedthe flesh," achieves the almost complete disappearance of the figures ("Composition with the angel"). The drawings made compressed charcoal and graphite pencil, indicate a rare gift of the artist, the perfection of his plastic skill.

the First exhibition of works Chekriguina in the Tretyakov gallery gives a rare chance for the audience to see the artist's legacy-философа and visionary, who sought to exercise unique to the twentieth century spiritual and artistic project.
