Pushkin Museum will show the complete cycle "Caprichos" of Goya and Dali

a Collection of prints by Goya will be presented from the collection of the Pushkin Museum, and the series "Caprichos de Goya", created by Salvador Dali — from collection of Boris Fridman. Reprints of the XIX century, with original boards 1799 was made Goya etchings with aquatint. Works by Salvador Dali executed in the techniques of etching, dry-point and pochoir and print on top of heliogravure with original etchings by Goya.

To each pair of sheets of Goya and Dali is a review of Goya. Thus, the exposition is a literary text (comments Goya) and illustrations (etchings of Goya and Dali). This design exhibition will allow the viewer to better understand what made artists, feel the modern sounding works of art created over two hundred years ago and continued in the twentieth century.

One of the vertices of the graphic art of Francisco Goya is the creation of a series of etchings "Caprichos". Caprichos (ital. capricci; FR. caprices; use caprichos) — a special genre has developed in the art of Western Europe at the turn of XVI–XVII centuries, involving the creation in the fine arts, music or poetry, a series of whims, fads or fantasies, one-либо topic.

All the subjects of the series "Caprichos" talk about contemporary artists and the realities of political and social life of Spain, which is experiencing the period of deep crisis. In his works he is a critic of public morality, consistently revealing the hidden meaning of reality and destroying the existing foundations of the old world. Among the story lines that he develops, one can distinguish self-deception and hypocrisy, women's levity and misery, the metaphor of the human world like the animal, the sleep of reason and the awakening of human consciousness. Goya ridiculed Spain and sarcastically evil: the vices of the common people, the hypocrisy of the nobility, the court circles of the ruling couple, the Church, the Inquisition.

the Complex graphic design of a series of 80 etchings demanded a longer review. The first was given by Goya.
