"The art of living. The interior of the burgher houses in Holland heyday"

The exhibition in the Pushkin Museum paintings and objects of applied art creates the image of the house — is one of the most important in Dutch art of the XVII century

the Exhibition, which opens to the public on 11 October, will present works from the collection of the Pushkin Museum to them. A. S. Pushkin and other Russian Museum collections, private collections, and the Museum of fine arts Budapest and the Museum of Dordrecht.

In his paintings of prominent painters managed to convey the particular atmosphere that reigned in the Dutch houses, plunging into which the viewer can experience the authenticity of a frozen moment from the past. Interiors are an important part of the story on these canvases. Despite the apparent similarity in the composition, each work demonstrates a strong artistic personality of its author. Poetic narrative, and at times incredible and the care with which artists have portrayed the smallest details of decoration, often inscribed in idealized space, allow you to see all the variety of items burgher houses created from different materials — wood, stone, porcelain, glass, metal, fabric, leather and many others. Works of art, furniture, dishes, carpets, possessed by a wealthy Dutch family, was not only craftsmanship, but also functionality. These were the things produced in the country, and unique products brought from different corners of the world.
