Exhibition "Enchanted by the East, which will be held in the gallery ARTSTORY from 23 June to 9 October 2016, introduces "Oriental" period of creativity of such well-known experimentalists 1920-30-х years, Alexander Volkov, Alexander Labas, Mikhail Kurzin, Alexander Nikolaev (Usto Mumin), Victor Ufimtsev, Nadezhda Kashina, Amshey Nuremberg, Nicholas Karahan, Benjamin Kedrin, Vadim Gulyaev, Vladimir Favorsky, and many of their adherents.

the Exhibition will comprise over 150 works — painting, drawing and sculpture — artists who has devoted his life and work with Turkestan. Many works will be shown for the first time. Bright innovative avant-garde works on the General artistic mentality —, it was the avant-garde, which came not from the West but from the East. In pictures, a glimpse of the influence of the European avant-garde, Cubo-футуристов, Suprematism, while in the foreground the culture of Central Asia.

Special section of the exhibition — work in wartime. It will include publications of the Association "Window Ustag, which produced propaganda posters during the great Patriotic war. Here will be presented a series of "Ordinary people of Uzbekistan" Benjamin Kedrin and military works of Alexander Labasa (one of his works is called "Tashkent. On the street. Camels and tanks. 1943").

Despite the difference in their destinies, all the authors were United in the desire without losing own identity and uniqueness, to blend in with the atmosphere of the East and make a fresh stream — first European avant-garde, and later their own version of socialist realism, interpreted in the Asian system of coordinates. A special place in the exhibition are artists who were born in Central Asia, but worked side by side with their guests of the Russian colleagues.

All the participants emerged community connected personal friendship, fellowship, trips used in the mountains, participated in collective exhibitions and collaboration, which further contributed to the convergence and prosperity of the great cultures.

the East has always attracted and excited the minds of the best representatives of Russian art, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that some of them, for different reasons, found themselves on the territory of the "Soviet Asia". the exhibition will feature works from the collections of galleries ARTSTORY, "Ark", "Chistye Prudy", as well as from private collections of Yuri Petukhov, Yuriy Nosov, Alexander Nevskogo, Yegor Markevich, Elena Chirkova, Alice Labas, Tatyana Dobroserdova and other.

In the framework of the project in the gallery ARTSTORY will be a presentation of the book "Enchanted by the East," lecture and film show on — screening and discussion of two documentaries about the legendary art collector Igor Savitsky, who created the capital of Karakalpakstan Nukus unique Museum of nonconformist art, as well as a lecture about the transformation of plastic images of the East in the family tradition of artists Volkov — A.
