15 June at the State Russian Museum (Mikhailovsky castle) opens the exhibition "Stepan Erzya. 1876-1959".

the Exhibition is timed to 140-летию birth anniversary of the outstanding sculptor of the first half of the twentieth century Stepan Dmitrievich Nefedov, known under the pseudonym Erzya. It presents all the works stored in the Russian Museum (sculpture 31) and 5 works from the collections of the Mordovian Republican Museum of fine arts. S. D. Erzya in Saransk.

Stepan Dmitrievich Nefedov took the pseudonym Erzya by the name of one of the Mordovian Erzya peoples, which belonged to himself. The name Erzya is known not only in Russia but throughout the world. From 1907 to 1914 Erzya lived and worked in Italy and France. In 1913 in Paris held his first solo exhibition. From 1927 to 1950 Erzya held in Argentina, and then returned home.

Works Erzya has always caused and continue to cause keen interest, love and genuine admiration. In the collection of the Russian Museum holds the largest and most complete collection of works of Erzya, the author referred to the gift to the state.

In the exposition you can see the best and most famous works, created in different years, — portraits of Leo Tolstoy and Ludwig van Beethoven, pictures of popular characters, such as "Mordovka" and "Cossack", an allegorical sculpture "Grief", "Brave", "Whisper", etc.
