In the Hermitage in June will open the first exhibition of Erte in Russia

21 June 2016 at the State Hermitage Museum opened the exhibition "Erte — genius ar-деко: return to St. Petersburg". Erte (real name — Roman Petrovich Tyrtov, 1892-1990) — famous artist, graphic designer, fashion designer of the era ar-деко.

Roman tyrtov was born in Saint-Петербурге and from an early age showed an interest in theater, painting, graphics and fashion design. In 1912 forever left Russia and settled in Paris. Your alias "Erte" he made from the first letters of name and surname. In 1913-1914 he began working as a fashion designer (famous from fashion designer Paul Poiret) and a stage designer. In 1915 he signed a contract with the American magazine Harper's Bazaar, every issue of which came out until 1935, with painted Erte cover. He also worked for Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Ladie's Home Journal, The Sketch and other illustrated periodicals of the USA, England and France.

On display at the Hermitage, Russia's first exhibition of Erte, will be presented 136 works from the private collection of Mike Estorick: watercolors and gouaches, ink drawings, several examples of prints and 2 sculptures. Parents of the current owner of the collection was assembled and sold objects of art Erte and did business in the past 20 years of the artist's life. In the Hermitage will come only a small part of their collection of works by Erte, but at the exhibition it will present the artist's work from the earliest works (1912) to the most late. This is the work done for fashion houses of Paris before World war I, drawings of the costumes for American and French fashion magazines, including one of the most famous complexes works — covers for Harper's Bazaar. About half of the exhibition — drawings for various theatre productions: sets and costumes for operas, music-холлов, a Broadway show. Also presented large graphic series "Numbers" and "Alphabet", received wide popularity thanks to made from the original drawings of the engravings.
