The art of film posters. Russia, 1910-30-е years
Unique rare posters of the period of the emergence and dynamic development of cinema exhibition in the Library of cinematic art named after. S. M. Eisenstein is the auction house "Litfond"
From 12 to February 24 in the library named after S. M. Eisenstein opened the exhibition "the Art of film posters. Russia, 1910-1930-е years," featuring rare posters of the period of the emergence and dynamic development of cinema. Its thematic core — is a unique collection of posters for the period from 1917-го 1990-е years. Exhibition held within special program of the auction house "literary Fund", dedicated to the celebration of the Year of cinema in Russia.
Circle of artists who worked in early twentieth century cinema, was relatively limited. School personnel for a new direction became the Stroganov school. Its graduates were among the founders of the original canons of the genre of promotional film posters. And to their credit that collectors around the world appreciate these works not only as a historical artifact, but also as outstanding graphic works.
Graphical arrangement of the film language of that era will appear to the visitors performed by artists such as Nikolai Prusakov, Anatoliy Belsky, Iosif Gerasimovich, Vladimir Stenberg, Georgii Stenberg, etc., a huge influence on which had the ideas of the avant-garde and, in particular, the Soviet constructivism.
it is Noteworthy that some of the films which led to the creation of posters from the exhibition, now completely lost. So that modern film fans can judge these works only by descriptions in textbooks and presented in the exhibition posters.
among the most interesting instances can be called adventure advertising Billboard paintings from the beginning of 1920-х, "the Adventurer from Monte-Карло" with silent-film star Ellen Richter in the title role and "Sherlock Holmes in the fight against fraudulent sweepstakes".
the exhibition includes two versions of an advertising poster for the famous horror film "the Cabinet of wax figures". One of them — authorship brothers Stenberg — printed in Moscow in 1926, and the other — two years earlier, in Kharkov.
Another obvious rarity — poster 1926 the first Armenian feature film "namous", filmed on the novel by Alexander Shirvanzade.
on 25 February, after the exhibition, the auction house "literary Fund" will auction "of all the arts the most important for us is cinema...", which will be presented over 300 lots of posters spanning more than seventy years: from 1917-го until 1990-х years.
