In the Year of the Netherlands in the Russian Federation , an exhibition of works from the corporate collection of ING Group, the most significant of which are paintings related to the art direction magical realism .

beginning of the twentieth century was marked by the birth of a number of artistic movements who rejected previous realist tradition. The need to start all over again, to review and revise all existing standards in the arts has led to experiments with form. Artists went farther in the direction of abstraction , the plot takes a back seat . However, the 1920s in Europe were held under the slogan " return to order ". The revival of realist tendencies in art , the culmination of this process came in the 1930s . The new style was to reflect the realities of the past war . This led to the birth of a new form of realism, waived images of everyday life as it was in the art of the nineteenth century , and focus on other methods . Across Europe, began to appear similar style of art : New Objectivity in Germany , metaphysical art in Italy , surrealism in France , magical realism in the Netherlands .

term " magic realism " was born in Germany and was later picked up by Dutch writers. Its meaning was that the objects of the real world depicted with photographic accuracy , but they were placed in implausible or unrealistic context - the fruit of the imagination of the artist. Thus was born the magic effect of estrangement , the destruction of the standard perception of the world . To achieve this effect addressed to the magical realists perfected the technique of painting of the XVII century . In this case, the facade emphasized realistic painting style hides the insightful and deeply personal view, and scrupulous accuracy with which pictures are made , creates a sense of alienation .

Cloths masters of magic realism - Karel Villinka (1900 - 1983), Pake Koch ( 1901-1991 ) , Raul Hinkuisa ( 1893-1973 ) , Dick Ket ( 1902-1940 ) and Wim Schumacher ( 1894-1986 ) - are designed in soft muted colors , not " loud " and not expressive in nature . This achieves a difficult task: to show the inner world , hidden behind the external reality - a world of fantasy and magic .

For the modern representatives of the Netherlands is characterized by magic realism and not accidental contact with such phenomena in the art of XX century as pop art , neo-expressionism and photorealism . An example is the work of such artists as Philip Ackerman (1957) and Barend Blankert (1941 ) , Frans Clement (1941) and Koos van Coyle (1940). Demonstrative construction techniques shaped the world , the desire to beat the utility and stereotype surrounding space, leaving the world of the imaginary , the use of hidden allusions, free play with the images and meanings of modern art have in common "magic " of artists and surrealism . In this extreme figurativizma and attention to detail are undoubtedly appeal to the realist tradition of the old Dutch masters .

task of the exhibition "Magic of Dutch realism" - to show the magic realism , one of the most remarkable phenomena in the Dutch art of the XX century , as a dialogue between generations of painters , brings to mind the traditional culture of the Netherlands. The exhibition includes approximately forty works by Dutch artists of XX - XXI centuries , demonstrating technical skill mix of tradition and innovation .
