"Archaeology of memory" Valentina Korzhova in "Gogol-center"

Today in "Gogol-center" opens the exhibition project Valentina Korzhova, in which he creates his Mausoleum with 15 porcelain skulls – the symbols of the former republics of the USSR

New project by artist Valentina Korzhova "Archaeology of memory" is an attempt to explore the core element of the modern history of the Russian authorities, the Moscow Mausoleum, as the concentration of rituals and occult practices. The artist is building a new Mausoleum, where instead of the relics of the chief he puts 15 porcelain skulls, each of which is decorated with national ornament of one of the republics that were part of the former USSR. Korzhov addresses the topic of the skull, stressing that its classical value was debunked, ridiculed and thrown down from Olympus of art in popular culture. According to the author, the use of porcelain carries a few key values: first, the complexity of manufacturing and the fragility of porcelain — here is a direct metaphor for the establishment of a political and social utopia, which was the Soviet Union. Secondly, piles of broken shards of porcelain on the floor as evidence of failure, and the price always has to pay for all ambitious projects in the history chelovechestva@

it is Known that the idea of the Moscow Mausoleum was lying in a purely ideological plane: as an effective instrument of government, nurtured on religious needs in the king — the vicegerent of God on earth. Occurred the substitution of political Orthodoxy religion has led to the development of their own "Holy" objects of worship and occult practices inspired by religious rituals of ancient Egypt, the Sumerians and other Narodov@

the exhibition Valentina Korzhova "Archaeology of memory", which opens in "Gogol-center" as part of the 5th Moscow Biennale of contemporary art, will be shown three installations and one video. 15 skulls, the number of the former republics of the USSR, decorated with authentic paintings previously inhabited their peoples, will be placed in the tower of the ziggurat as a sign of remembrance of the death of one of the largest civilizaci@
