Today Gallery "Vellum" (center of "Artifact") opens the exhibition of a famous Jewish artist Meir Axelrod . The exhibition presents about 30 works.
main "body" exhibited the collection - it works in black and white graphics 1920-30-ies, representing illustrations for the works of famous writers (Sholom Aleichem, Isaac Babel, Anton Chekhov and others), and also sketches of towns, where he spent his childhood and youth of the artist, and which left a deep impression in his life and work.
Meir Axelrod was born in 1902 in Molodechno (Belarus), and since 1913, he studied in the school of the famous Pan in Vitebsk.
Particular attention is drawn to tamper "stories" of those places where it had been in the second half of the XX century. First of all, this is the Baltic region, which the artist saw the "Land of the Brothers Grimm": arched columns and skyrocketing Gothic tower on a background of azure sky.
