Artworks Paul Alexandrovich Shillingovsky (1881-1942) in the history of Russian engraving of the twentieth century have a special place . It is interesting that his first degree at the Academy, he defended as a painter (workshop Kardovsky , 1911) and only later, he decided to devote himself to art prints (workshop VV Mate , 1914), which is not changed until his tragic death in the siege of Leningrad in 1942.

Like other students VV Mate ( AP, grapes and , V. D . Falileev , Ivan Pavlov I. and others), and PA was Shillingovsky at the origin of Russian engraving of the twentieth century. It is this generation of artists managed to arouse public interest in the engraving as artistic value to the museum and collecting object. First introduced in the early 1910s, at exhibitions (Academy of Arts, the "World of Art", in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Leipzig) engraving Shillingovsky immediately attracted the attention of critics of classical perfection, excellence, virtuosity engraver, commitment best examples of Renaissance and Baroque.

The art of etching Shillingovsky showed himself a master of a wide range. Warriors , IAOrbeli) emphasized not only historically important context of works, but also their highly artistic level. Shillingovsky sought luminosity print, surprised the audience a detailed list of architectural and everyday realities, socio-cultural and national characteristics.

as a book illustrator artist executed a series of orders of the legendary publisher Academia (1930), among which stands edition of Homer's "Odyssey" (1935). According to popular opinion, this is one of the most interesting books and decoration works publishers. In operation Shillingovsky researched a lot of samples of ancient material culture. Galeev Gallery exhibition, the first to represent the artist's work in Moscow, is based on the collection of PE Kornilov (1896 - 1981), known Leningrad collectors, museum professionals, author of many works on the history of twentieth century art, a close friend of Paul Alexandrovich. Kornilov was the initiator and author of a number of books and articles about the artist's work, organized his first solo exhibition (1924). After the death of Kornilov Shillingovsky inherited archive of the artist, who later distributed by the central and peripheral museums. The organizers are grateful to the heirs of Peter Tamm for the opportunity to expose the work of PA Shillingovsky.

The exhibition was prepared by the established tradition album-monograph about the artist. It was first played works from, not only in private collections, but also in the collections of the state museums: National Museum of the City of St. Petersburg, the Pushkin Museum.
