idea to show his artistic neon incarnation, it would seem, should have been a long time be implemented by museum workers, but, oddly enough, is embodied only now - thanks to the Paris museum Maison-Rouge. Perhaps the organizers stopped the technical difficulties associated with the creation of this exhibition. However, the birth of a long retrospective of neon is quite reminiscent of how long and hard to go to the art of neon.
neon sign invented in the early XX century French scientist Georges Claude (Georges Claude). The first sign came in 1912 in Montmartre, and graced the barber shop. Entrepreneurs quickly realized that a new invention perfect attracts attention, and soon on the Champs Elysees already wore advertising "Cinzano" glowing letters of the meter. Hard to believe, but it was observed, along with simple Parisians, Rodin (Rodin), Monet (Monet), Picasso (Picasso), Leger (Léger) and Duchamp (Duchamp), which, however, interested in neon in so far as to pay attention to all the other technical innovations of his time, such as motion picture and aviation.
In 1920, 30s neon positively shone over the world capitals - Berlin, New York, London and Paris, the flowering the streets of these cities bright advertising signs and provocatively. However, only in 1960, fifty years after his birth, neon penetrated into artists' studios, and then - in the gallery, and finally became a full-fledged artistic technique.

Maison Rouge neon returns to his homeland and is in its branches exhibition of 108 works of 83 artists from different countries according to their works one can trace the evolution of neon for the past half century.
works in this "light" seems to be a genre, strangely enough, is inherent in darkness and absurdity. Jean-Michel Alberola (Jean-Michel Alberola, p. 1953), for example, in his pessimistic work neon wrote the word "Nothing", the contours of which are woven in the shape of a human skull. Stefan Brüggemann (Stefan Brüggemann, p. 1975) shone with white letters on black background displays: "This work should be turned off when I die." Kendel Gears (Kendel Geers, p. 1968) displays in red the word "fear" and Tracey Emin (Tracey Emin) of his ingenuous request (or a parody of innocence?), "Just Love Me" and quite confusing viewers.
The exhibition will have a lot of reading, and in different languages: in English, French and even in Latin, there is a lot of irony, parody, references to recent history and social problems. The reason is clear: one of the pioneers of neon from the 1960s, Deng Flevin (Dan Flavin), started using it just to distance themselves from the "hills" of abstract expressionism. In those same years, Reiss Martial (Martial Raysse) reproduced by the usual commercial neon signs and labels, inserting them into his collages flashy colors. Neon was a medium who brought the "vulgarity" and simplicity of everyday life in the "high art", which later confirmed once again, and Bruce Nauman (Bruce Nauman), with the help of sparkling lines reproduces the style of street art, his paintings and causing poluprilichnye inscriptions.
So that neon is not so innocent as it seems. His role is not to please the eye, but - excite the mind to cling and annoying. What does, for example, in his work the artist from Bethan Hughes of Wales (Bethan Huws), has created a copy of one of the neon dyushanovskih ready-made - it stands for a certain bottles. In the end, thanks to decorate this everyday object neon lights born artistic paradox, raising to the level of ordinary evil character.
