today in the Russian Museum presents "Holidays in Russian." Exhibition for the first time such a comprehensive and broadly representative of the holiday theme in Russian art XVIII - XX centuries. The exhibition presents 125 paintings, drawings, crafts and folk art from the Russian Museum.

In Russian celebrations for centuries combined Christianity and paganism, the Peasants and urban culture, the spiritual and the carnal, traditional Russian and foreign. The exhibition traces the evolution of holiday themes ranging from the XVIII century, when local artists work include state and national holidays, as well as related traditions, rituals and customs. Easter worship, processions, dances, colorful carnivals and Shrove other subjects related to the theme of folk festivals, have been reflected in paintings and graphic works, products of Imperial Porcelain Factory and the works of folk artists.

special section of the exhibition is devoted to the artistic reflection of Soviet holidays. In the paintings of Isaac Brodsky , PD Buchkin , A. H . Samokhvalova , AMGerasimov , as well as posters and samples of applied art official public holidays and memorable dates (the first of May, Victory Day, November 7) appear as a grand event - a demonstration, parade, a celebration of Labor initiative or a modest family ritual. Other than household or religious aspect of the holiday theme is revealed in the works of Yuri Petrovich P. Kugacha , DM Shakhovsky , ZP Arshakuni, T. Nazarenko and other artists of the second half of XX - beginning XXI century .
