Exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the artist, musician, teacher, publisher Mikhail Vasilievich Matyushin (1861 - 1934), represents about 60 works by masters from the collections of the State Museum of St. Petersburg.
In 1920 M. Matyushin formulated the theory of "extended looking." It was a methodological basis for a new direction in Russian avant-garde art, known as "organic art." With a group of students at the Academy of Fine Arts and then at the State Institute of Artistic Culture (Institute of Artistic Culture) Matyushin experimentally tried to prove that people do not fully use the data to him the nature of the physiological capabilities and is able to expand the boundaries of perception of the world. The artist, watching and knowing the reality, should not represent fragments of reality, and to transmit all the fullness and the infinity of space, a common co-existence of objects and the environment without unnecessary detail detail. "The development of these ideas is as a result of long experience and observation of nature , motion, light, color, shape, and inclusions in the increasingly expanding field of view. Science Watch and learn all at once, filled circle itself, will change the entire understanding of visibility. The scope and coverage of the visual ray from the center will be much deeper and wider comparison. It will be a new sensation and perception surrounding its immensity of space and new ways to the great collective creativity "- wrote M. Matyushin.
quest for scientific substantiation of human physiological super-powers was the result of a long-standing interest the artist to study the problems of space. Explaining his own perception of space, often referred to Matyushin research scientists involved in "the development of spatial concepts." In his writings there are the names of NI Lobachevskii, H. Minkowski, Einstein. special influence on the outlook has Matyushina mathematician and theosophist PD Ouspensky and his book «Tertium Organum. The key to the mysteries of the world" (1911), which was very popular in intellectual circles in the 1910s. "Wave motion for nature started. A new vision of the world man. Nature gives all, but still wins the creativity of the form. But the supreme beings have to understand a single work and go quietly on the right path, "- said the artist.
The exhibition includes drawings Matyushina started in 1920, 30 years, some of them vividly illustrate his theoretical work, "Rick in a wide landscape" (1922), "Pine in the extended consideration, adhesion to space" (1924-1925). Sketches and drawings made pencil, give an idea of direct perception of the natural world, the artist, the image of man. In the early 1930s Matyushin with students participated in the design of city holidays, created sketches for posters, "Educational program" (1930), "Marriage" (1931), " bank of the collective farm machine "(1930), reflecting the transformation of the artist's creative quest at the end of life. Most of the works exhibited for the first time.
