Sergey Kharlamov was born in 1942 in Kashira. In 1966 he graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art (former Stroganov), department of arts and crafts. He studied with teachers Kozlinskaya , B. Komardenkova . With 2-year students began drawing, he worked in newspapers and magazines. Since 1967 - a permanent participant of major art exhibitions.

Sergei Kharlamov, won fame for the cycle of illustrations for the novel by J. Swift's Gulliver's Travels. For this work, the artist was awarded first prize at an international exhibition in Czechoslovakia. He works in various techniques of easel and book illustrations - woodcuts, linocuts. Among his works - illustrations for such works of Russian literature as the "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka Nikolai Gogol," Ode "GRDerzhavin," My Bells "by A. Tolstoy," The Thief "by L. MG Leonov, "I get up in the predawn" MM Prishvin, "Wreath of Sonnets" VA Soloukhin, poetry FITyutchev and SAEsenin, "Book of Sonnets" Rasul Gamzatov. Well-known series of drawings "to the Holy Land," performed in the technique of colored pencil.

In 1980 the artist created a series of prints devoted to the 600 th anniversary of the Kulikovo battle. Widely reproduced, became popular prints "Saint Sergius of Radonezh", "Prayer before the battle," "Duel Peresvet with Chelubey", "After the battle," etc. The image of St. Sergius occupy a dominant place in the artist.

In 2002 was released on the album "visible steps", where the artist in the texts and illustrations tells the story of time and of themselves.
