In the halls of the Central Museum of Ancient Culture and Art Andrei Rublev exhibition "Greek Icons from the island of Crete. XV - XVII century. From museum and private collections. Co-founder of the exhibition is the State Historical Museum. The exhibition was supported by the State Tretyakov Gallery, Church and archaeological study at the Moscow Theological Academy, the private museum "Russian Icon", Moscow collector, KV Voronin, and AL Rastorguev gallery family Dritsulas (Munich).

The exhibition features 50 Greek icons of the Cretan School, which became the successor of the Byzantine artistic culture after the fall of Constantinople in 1453. The scope and high level of iconic works in Crete in XV - XVII centuries ensured the protection of the island from Turkish expansion Venice and widespread demand for Cretan icon throughout the Mediterranean. She bought the Orthodox monastery and wealthy houses of the Greeks, Roman Catholic monasteries and Italian know. Russia was not involved in this artistic maelstrom. Only a few works from Crete came into our fatherland in the form of offerings to the king and the patriarch. Icon, displayed at the exhibition - is the result of an enthusiastic gathering of Russian collectors, which started early last century and continues to this day.
