Exhibition "and the water flowing beneath the ice" - the first project in Russia, representing the work of contemporary artists in North Korea. Curators of the project undertook to show the world of modern Korea through the prism of art. Contemporary art of the DPRK is an alliance of Korean art and traditions of the Soviet school of painting. Meanwhile, North Korea has managed at one time to avoid direct repetition techniques of social realism and has committed itself to maintaining national traditions of painting. By the beginning of the XXI Century Arts DPRK has developed into a recognizable artistic style, which can be called Juche socialist realism, and which can be traced not only to communist ideas, but also a deep connection with the Korean aesthetic heritage.
