yesterday in the shop White CSI "Winery" opened "and under the ice is flowing water", devoted to contemporary art of the DPRK (North Korea).
Pairing traditions: Socialist Realism and "Korean Painting»
Exhibition "and the water flowing beneath the ice" - the first project in Russia, representing the work of contemporary artists in North Korea. Curators of the project undertook to show the world of modern Korea through the prism of art. Contemporary art of the DPRK is an alliance of Korean art and traditions of the Soviet school of painting. Meanwhile, North Korea has managed at one time to avoid direct repetition techniques of social realism and has committed itself to maintaining national traditions of painting. By the beginning of the XXI Century Arts DPRK has developed into a recognizable artistic style, which can be called Juche socialist realism, and which can be traced not only to communist ideas, but also a deep connection with the Korean aesthetic heritage. Learn about the existence of this artistic phenomenon not previously been possible because of the closeness of the DPRK and the external "political embargo." In this regard, the exhibition at the CCA VINZAVOD, prepared with the assistance of the creative association "Mansudae" - an unprecedented project. This is an attempt to crack the crust of the ideological ice, chilling our understanding of the DPRK, and open access to other kinds of information - cultural information.

technique and themes
Most of the papers presented at the exhibition, made in the most representative of the DPRK's technique of "Korean Painting", which is a matter of national pride and history which has more than 2000 years. Modern "Korean Painting" - a bright, colorful, usually large format drawing made on paper with ink. Unlike European watercolor painting is the main tool is the line (circuit), but not color spot. Works of art of North Korean plot and narrative. Image of rosy-cheeked girl with a heavy bag on his shoulder, stopped at the village road and spoke with the kids, tells us that housing has reached such a magnitude that the postman is lost in a familiar town and could not find the right house (Choe Dong-Il, "New house Migok village "). Like the Soviet painting, even to a greater extent, the art of the DPRK, the achievements of the Korean nation, is functioning as a sort of news feed. Along with the "Korean Painting", in the exhibition include embroidery, mosaics, and poster art.
concept of the exhibition
Oleg Kulik : «Introducing the art of the DPRK, we want to draw attention to the world of people living in closed from the outside the impact of space. In fact, anyone who lives in a closed system of his inner world, recognizing in this report or not, engaged in self-development, or let him slide. We decided to present world of imagery as a metaphor for the whole country inside a person's life in the modern world. The inner world of North Korea is interesting primarily for their originality - formed a society closed to the influence by the overwhelming flow of information, the world finds a lot more human than expected ».
Anna Zaitseva: Given that the DPRK art in many ways the legacy of Soviet school of painting, soft Korean culture very early on was to distance itself from Soviet influence, insisting on its own uniqueness. The key text of President Kim Il Sung "The three charters for national reunification," the Soviet Siberia is actually equivalent to an ideologically alien to Western Europe: "During the war, I visited one of the hospitals. On his wall hung a landscape in Siberia, which was drawn by a bear, crawling over the white snow under a big tree. Then I was seriously criticized the workers, asking them why not have painted such beautiful mountains and rivers of Korea ... Korean nation and should continue to live in a beautiful home country, rather than in Siberia and in Europe. " Since the early 1950's attitude to the Soviet culture in general and art in particular was that of attraction and repulsion at the same time. The ancient technique of "Korean Painting" has become the basis of national Juche socialist realism, and at first (until 1970) fully replaced the oil painting, burdened with the bourgeois-European origin ».
