Mikhail Matyushin (1861-1934) - painter, poet, musician, teacher and art theorist, who has spearheaded the Russian avant-garde. In 1918 -1926 he taught at the Petrograd State Free Art Studios (later Petrograd branch Art Workshops), where he organized a "Workshop of the spatial realism" involved in the study of space-medium color in the painting. Search in this area was devoted to the artist's work at the Museum of Artistic Culture (1922), and then GINHUKe (State Institute of Artistic Culture), where he directed the Division of Organic Culture.
