this week in the halls of the Central Museum of ancient Russian culture and art named after Andrei Rublev in the Saviour's-Андрониковом the monastery opened an exhibition dedicated to the unique monument of Russian book art of the third quarter of the XVI century — manuscripts of the life of Basil the Great. The exhibition is organized jointly with the Russian state archive of ancient acts and the State's science-исследовательским Institute of restoration and dedicated to the completion of the restoration of the manuscript.

Small manuscript contains only one piece of literature and more than 200 illustrating its thumbnail in the list. This is the most complete illustrated life of the Saint. Nor in manuscripts, nor in icons, neither in the monumental painting there is no such a detailed pictorial cycle of the life of St. Basil.

On the origin of the manuscript information is available, but it can be assumed that such a carefully selected and complete set of miniatures has been associated with a particular order. The style of the miniatures tells that this monument was probably created in a monastery.

Ancient illustrated manuscripts stored in libraries and museums, are usually not available to the public. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity to get acquainted with this code in embroidered form, when the viewer will be able to see thumbnail images of the most interesting events described in the life of the Saint. Central Museum of Andrey Rublev was not the first time its halls to exhibiting artistically decorated ancient manuscripts in the final stages of their restoration.
