Mstislav Valerianovich was born in Novgorod 2 (14) August 1875 artillery officer in the family of an old Lithuanian family. In his memoirs about his childhood Novgorod Dobuzhinsky very movingly conveys the unique atmosphere of a provincial, rich spirituality of the city. His mother was the daughter of Timothy Sophia, who served in the Church of Archangel Michael in Prussia street, next to which a parsonage. Many years after the death of Mstislav Dobuzhinsky, in 1973, figures from Lithuanian subjects briefly exposed in Brooklyn (New York).
