In Cinema Center "Home Movies" (St. Petersburg, Caravan, 12), an exhibition "Memories of Venice - Tommaso Filippi" from the collection ROSPHOTO. The exhibition introduces visitors to the new additions to the funds of the State Center of Photography. Currently ROSPHOTO collection, which was launched in 2003, has about ten thousand items. Much of the collection - it's the end of the nineteenth-century photographs, unique materials of the art world and Russian photographs, the change of artistic styles, the development of photographic techniques, the evolution of technology.
Tommaso Filippi (Tomaso Filippi, 1852 -1948, Venice), whose work is represented in the exhibition - the famous Italian photographer, fully devoted their creativity hometown. His name fund photographs, part of the Institute for Rehabilitation and studying in Venice.
Tommaso Filippi graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Venice as a graphic artist. From 1870 he worked in the studio Carlo Naya (Carlo Naja) - one of the most famous European photographers of his time. After the death of Nye in 1882, Filippi continued to work in the studio of his teacher in his name, and only in 1895, he opened his own studio on the Piazza San Marco. He sold to tourist shops and publishers of postcards have already become traditional cards and take pictures of works of art from museums, galleries, cathedrals and palaces of Venice. It is these high-quality images glorified craftsmanship Tommaso Filippi and his individual style, is highly regarded by his contemporaries. In 1981, the daughter of Philippi, fulfilling his father will use the negatives and photographs for the preservation of cultural heritage of his native city, gave his photo archive in the IRE (Institute of restoration and study of Venice).
