Today, September 2, in the Marble Palace Russian Museum opens the exhibition "The Beauty of the Japanese." The exhibition includes 70 works - paintings, drawings, screens - twelve contemporary Japanese artists, among whom the master is not only widely known in the West, but also valued on the inside of Japanese art scene. The exhibition is well-known Tokyo-based gallery "Shiraishi» (Gallery Shiraishi).
first Japanese contemporary art is represented in Russia with such breadth. Artists of various scales, directions, generations pass on their vision of a Japanese perspective, its methods of representation of "beauty in Japanese." Among the masters of Japanese art - the number of painters, sculptors, photographers, and firmly entered into the Western art-istemblishment. At the exhibition, they are names such as Yayoi Kusama, Hiroshi Sands, Masaaki Miyasako. In the mass consciousness, they symbolize the "Japanese contribution" to some global cultural integration processes. The work of others - Masataka Oyabu Kay Sibusava, Kazuyuki Futagava, Yuji Sasaki, Teyske Narita, Tadahiko Nakayama, Misaki Ando, Hanako Kunis, Tinami Nakajima - focus on purely national issues of artistic nuances of its evolution, the diverse traditions. They appeal primarily to a national audience - per complicity, empathy, adequate perception of culture.
Yayoi Kusama - becoming a participant of American performances, including political . Her art is associated with surrealism and pop art, more often - with minimalism. The artist, poet, writer unique in its rootedness in the American art of the last five decades. The main ornamental Yayoi Kusama matrix was the theme of "peas" in various forms - from geometrically dispassionate, technological, to an organic, more natural and wrong that comes from the "manual» (hand made) or organic, natural origin.
Hiroshi Sands represented Japan in Venice in 1995 and was the first artist from Asia to be awarded the Honorable Mention Award. President of Kyoto University of Art and Design, he divides his time between Japan and New York. "Branded" images Sands - waterfalls. Constant appeal to the theme of the waterfall (quite traditional for the Far Eastern art) has a lot of plans: the sense of special closeness to nature, dissolved in it, and penetration into its interior, inaccessible to visually impaired lives, and a lot of mythopoetical and metaphorical shades.
Masaaki Miyasako , a well-known artist in Japan, the middle generation, the owner seems to have all possible national awards, is just beginning to acquire popularity in the West. And this is strange: it was his art seems more adapted to the notions of "Japanese", which emerged from an ordinary viewer. Miyasako is the leading representative of traditional painting nihonga : mineral and vegetable pigments, pounded to powder, the organic glue as a binder, washi - traditional paper. Paint as opposed to the factory "western" do not mix. Added water "extracts" from the same pigment in different colors and tones. Important is the drying process: the situation in the course of his brushstrokes bring an element of improvisation.
Tadahiko Nakayama , a famous Japanese master, but rather can be regarded as a modern reincarnation of the painters of the old school » ErA - a Western-style Japanese painting has gained acceptance in Japan in the XIX century. It differs from traditional Japanese painting nihonga , not only to the object image, and appliances. For ErA is typical easel oil painting on canvas. A series of female portraits in traditional attire (posed model from the Ukraine) was written Nakayama precisely this technique. The artist not only demonstrates a high level of fine art, but also a special, coming from the cabin of the European portrait of the late nineteenth century chic in the transfer of the realities of the material world (textiles, furniture, etc.).
Masataka Oyabu is also an artist of the older generation. He uses both traditional mineral pigments, and acrylic works as a form of European easel painting and traditional forms of existence of the image - screen, fan, roll ... He tends to both traditional topics (paintings of waterfalls, trees, fish) and to the western genre schemes (domestic scene, the architectural landscape).
Kay Sibusava, Teyske Narita, Kazuyuki Futagava, Yuji Sasaki owned by about one generation. All four draws landscape. All represent the current state of school nihonga .
Tinami Nakajima - Hereditary painter nihonga (son of artist Kiyoshi
Nakajima), engraver, newspaper and book illustrator, muralist, decorator performances of Kabuki, the founder of the IU ( EYE), a professor at Tokyo University, Nakajima, nevertheless is known as probably the most popular in Japan, a painter of flowers. He has worked in mineral pigments on paper, often uses the screen.
Misaki Ando studied art independently, began to draw on 17 years. At the same time began to study pottery, visiting various centers of pottery in Japan. He studied in Paris, London and other European cities.
Hanako Qunicy looks transnational artist. She knows the Western (or Western-oriented) Youth type, clothing, gestures, is able to "grab" scenes from this single performance of youth life unfolding everywhere.
