Today the National Center of Photography "ROSPHOTO" (St. Petersburg) opens an exhibition presenting the masterpieces of five world-renowned masters of photography: Andre Kertes, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, breaststroke, Martin Munkácsy and Robert Capa

Today, 23 June, the St. Petersburg State Center of Photography "ROSPHOTO (ROSPHOTO) opens the exhibition" The Hungarian master of photography. " This is the first experience of cooperation ROSPHOTO and the Hungarian Museum of Photography, located in the city of Kecskemét.

The exhibition features masterpieces of five world-renowned masters of photography, which combines Hungarian origin. Andre Kertes, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Brassaï, Martin Munkácsy, Robert Capa - emblematic names in the history of photography XX century. Each of these names - this is its distinctive style and unique way of photography, which became an example and inspiration for followers, including a world-class masters.

exhibition created by the Hungarian Museum of Photography as a visual accompaniment of a study in which a detailed comparison of five biographies of famous photographers, identified points of contact, mutual influence, especially combined or, conversely, share their life paths.

Combining five great names in the same project, the authors mainly were intended to pay tribute to the contribution of Hungarian photography in the treasury of the world's photographic skills. Another important objective of the project - the comprehension of cultural, ethnic and historical context as a factor in forming a creative destiny of the photographer. This makes the exhibition particularly interesting, since the sets coordinate system, using the viewer has the ability to "localize" contemplate the image not only in time and space, but in a system of social values and interests of the era of its creation.

Photography came at a time when it was already gaining strength blurring of cultural borders in Europe, so the way that it chooses only a small extent determine the nationality of the photographer and a very large extent - the cultural context of the era. This factor determines a lot - from choosing photography as a field of activity and determine the direction of creative search before selecting a place to live and work. Each of the five photographers in the exhibition, has fled his homeland in order to achieve recognition in the West, and how they were predictable: Berlin - as a place where journalism has developed tremendous pace, Paris - as the capital of cultural life, the United States - as a place of refuge from the Nazis during the Second World War. Following the creative biography of authors, we see how the ideas of time are reflected in their work, asking her direction in accordance with the interests and talents of each of them. In the case of Munkácsy important ingredients of success have been feeling the moment and the speed of reaction, adventurism, giving an opportunity to make sensational pictures, which are so longed for the public industrial era press. For Kertes success defined his extraordinary sensitivity to the emotional state and feelings of man in harmony with the gained strength in the second half century trends promoting humanistic values; for brass - the ability to sense and convey a surreal moment of everyday life. Robert Capa world by mid-century had become dependent on visual evidence, remembered as the greatest war photographer who discovered the law of close proximity to the events as a pledge of successful military photos. Just in a different area lies activities Moholy-Nagy - his study of photography as a way of seeing and production must be seen against a background of particularly strong in 1920-30-ies of the ideology of general mobilization for the design of the future and the restructuring of society.

Among the papers presented at the exhibition - those that have special significance in the context of the creative ways each of the five photographers - in particular, is the first photographic experience Kertes, the debut Munkácsy images for fashion magazines; nearly died in the lab photos landing allies, Capa made in Normandy in 1944. Avoiding the retrospective approach, the exhibition rather indicates that each of the five Great Hungarians gave the world photography.
