Today, June 8, at 16.00 at the State Museum of Fine Arts named after AS Pushkin will open the exhibition, which presents a series of etchings "Mallorca" the great Spaniard Joan Miro (Barcelona, 1893 - Mallorca, 1983), one of the leading surrealist and abstract art from the Museum of Contemporary Art "Es Balearic" (Palma de Mallorca).

series of etchings "Mallorca", consisting of nine tracks and the cover sheet was created Miro in 1973. In April the same year the Spanish artist celebrated his eightieth birthday in Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, a villa built specially for him by his friend, renowned architect Jose Luis Certo. He had lived there since 1956, achieved his long-held dream and moved from Barcelona to the Balearic Islands. Thus, the entire late period of the master's, from the late 1950's and until his death in 1983, was connected with life on Mallorca, a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea, which is devoted to the exhibition presented a series of engravings.

series "Mallorca", filled with the spirit of improvisation and poetry, was created by the wizard based on his impressions from the Mediterranean island. It was printed edition of just 50 copies and very rare even in museum collections (in particular, it is not in the major Russian museums). Thus, this exhibition - a unique opportunity to see rarely displayed and is extremely valuable, including by virtue of its rarity, the works of the great Spanish masters.

Graphics occupied in the work of Miro does not last place, he turned to the art of engraving in the late 1920's, living in Paris.

During this period he created several large cycles of illustrations to works of the Surrealist poet.

presented in a series of works by Pushkin introduces the viewer who is interested in the art of XX century with the great cycle of graphics, especially the interesting fact that Miro, as a mature master, connecting elements surrealism and abstract expressionism with interest to the Non-figurative oriental art.

Museum of Modern Art "Es Balearic" in Palma de Mallorca (Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma) was founded in 1997, opened in 2004 (architect H. and L. Ruiz, A. Sánchez-Cantalejo and B. Thomas). It has a large collection of art masters of XX - XXI centuries, the funds include the contemporary art of Spain, Majorca, as well as the work of many great artists of XX century - Cézanne, Picasso, Miro, Picabia, Magritte, Giacometti.

The exhibition runs until June 24, 2010.
