I perceive the city as a huge living organism, growing and changing. I am interested to understand the symptoms of change, monitor the development of forms, just as the doctor notes the changes in the human body.

I am in constant search of new points for the filming, as though the city - a maze and opinion finds the entrance to it.

I'm trying to understand the aesthetic parameters of the perception of urban form and structure, leaving aside the issues of external beauty. What attracts me is not the classical well-known landmark, not architecture as cultural and historical phenomenon, but "averaged" the city, especially species of the suburbs, where, in the eyes of an architect, the quality of urban environment is practically reduced to zero.

R & suburbs - is the theme of modernity. In the era of Italian neorealism, Cesare Dzavattini screenwriter and director Roberto Rossellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Vittorio De Sica devoted much attention to visuals, demonstrated to the Italian suburbs, often using them as the main decoration, against which the story unfolded.

In addition, in the postwar years, the suburbs have become a wonderful platform for architectural experimentation.

city outskirts perfectly embody the idea of the border. Often the creation of great architects, an architectural stars, quite lost in the impersonal and heterogeneous environment, which minimizes their original genetic code.

The city is also often difficult in a structured and cosmopolitan space, whose body is found in "rupture" peri-urban fabric, and where to place the scar grows new skin, often the most unexpected appearance.

I'm taking pictures in different countries and cities far and near but they were all united by common challenges in the broader context of global change.

Panoramic landscape appears I have only occasionally - in the most recent works. I have not attempted to constructing a particular typological, historical /chronological or geographical paradigm, focusing more on purely external characteristics of the urban models, cognitive understanding of their form.

Prior to devote himself to city landscape, I was keen on photojournalism. Here I had my signs: of Bill Brandt and Eugene Smith. But over time the space completely captured my attention, and I gradually forgot about the people and events. Culture photos, which determined the creation of my generation, was full of a variety of myths, common and shared concepts, such as the "decisive moment" Cartier-Bresson. Slowing down the perception of the visible become for me a kind of revolution in the interpretation of visual and even mean a return to the past, to the time when photographers, submitting technical necessity, worked in a slow mode with a tripod. They can transmit an image of the world only statically. But it's "the slowness sight", so is suitable for capturing different geographical locations has become for me something much more: it is an existential and "philosophical" approach to reveal the possible "meaning" of the world.

When the view becomes more prolonged and extended in a physically limited area of the city, it is a natural process - a group of people or traffic, as it were" ousted "from the landscape, leaving in the background, as always happened in the pictures, and before that - in genre painting. Ever since its inception, photography became an effective means of measuring the world. She was unable to thoroughly rid of the symbolic value of "living testimony", and even in studies on its development and evolution of an art form, the question inevitably arises about the documentary. Ever since the world began to move forward faster, the reality and its image is superimposed on each other and merge into an almost indivisible whole. So to a certain extent we can say that the world has coincided with his own way ».
