Z. L. arrived in Petrozavodsk in 1940 after graduating from the Moscow Art Institute. VISurikova. As head of the Division of Fine Arts and Monuments Protection in the Office of the Arts of People's Commissars of the Lithuanian SSR, Zinovy Yefimovich traveled to Karelia, discovering the beauty of the edge, with which all his subsequent creative lives.

June 19, 1941 he was admitted to the Union of Artists of the USSR, and after three days of the Great Patriotic War. Z. E L. Army worked as an artist in the newspaper "To the glory of the Motherland" on the Volkhov front, then on the Murmansk front - in the Arctic. The collection is stored quick sketches, notes the artist of this period, a kind of artistic reportage about the war. War Z. L. graduated with the rank of captain, was awarded the medal "For Victory over Germany».

In 1949 he returned to Petrozavodsk, originally worked in the Karelian-Finnish publishing company, decorated books and pamphlets, but he was attracted easel graphics and Karelian landscapes. In 1952-1954 he created a series of etching "Old and new Petrozavodsk" - response to the revival of the capital of Karelia, heavily damaged during the war. The motives of the new city of contrasts with the image of the old wooden suburbs. The artist conveys in its pages a typical rhythm of life of postwar Petrozavodsk: rare passers-by, just as sparse traffic.

He passed the impressive grounds of the alloy, when the river - a continuous stream of black timber, he was able to convey a panorama of forests and sheltered lakes of the Karelian villages. The artist often varied the same reasons - boats, wooden planks on the water network, bath-house, barns on the shore. His landscapes are imbued with calm, sometimes elegiac reverie.

«Silent Art" ZE Lvovich modest, in the north is reserved and very sincere. His etchings masterfully constructed and executed, noble in tone, accurate in the figure and all are devoted to Karelia.
