It's not nostalgia, not regret, not in controversy and not to assess. And not even in history, although it is important and to be written.
When we tried to remember the events of the festival itself and asked other people to tell about what they remember, dismantled the archives , appealed to the parties themselves and the audience all that is happening - we just wanted to revive his memory and the memory of others first and most important event in the photographic world. It was a wonderful meeting in early summer, invented forty years ago, Lucien Klergom and several photographers and photo enthusiasts who want to end the convention and the dictates of photo clubs and managed to bring in Arles as the most celebrated artists of his time, and the young photographers.
Festival - is always open. And when he called the "Meetings" - this is an ambitious challenge. We add that this festival, conceived as a measure of the general, was opened at a time when the photographic world was torn apart by personal squabbles, picture has not yet been truly recognized, suffered from a lack of funds, came under attack from an ironic and demanding public, Homeric was subject to fits of anger and prone to loud premature declarations.
format of the festival has changed: Director, curators, Art Director, succeeded one another, but for the past forty years, "Meetings" are a significant event and appealing to the public, even if the organizers are confident that next year it will be better or worse than the previous.
For this project, we took pictures, photos from the archives, documents, projections, sound, video, the whole apparatus in order to help themselves to remember and tell others about the work done - from the debut of epic scale to the present day. To tell you how important it was for us to Arles, as we had fun, what we have learned and how many have received from the fun.
We have chosen a free and fun way to inform everyone that would like to continue to the same spirit ...
The exhibition is open until April 4, 2010. Working hours: Monday - Wednesday and Friday - Sunday: 12.00-20.00, Thursday: 13.00-21.00.
