Today, 1 December, at 17.00 in the Department of personal collections of the Museum Fine Arts named after AS Pushkin (Volkhonka, 10) opens an exhibition of contemporary American artist, born in Russia, Leon Steynmetsa.

His works are in collections of major museums in the United States, the State Museum Fine Arts. Pushkin in Moscow, as well as in many private collections in the world.

his first artist received the award at the Biennale in Latina for a series of papers in explanation of Ovid's Metamorphoses. Next was the recognition of the American Academy of Graphic Arts Award for "Best Book of the Year" for the series "Portrait: A Fantasy in the twenty-one sheet" created by the story by Nikolai Gogol "Portrait».

Leon Steynmets also known as an author of fiction and nonfiction: he taught and conducted seminars on literary skills at Harvard University and at several prominent U.S. colleges.

exhibition devoted significant event in 2009 - 200 anniversary of Nikolai Gogol. It consists of eighty-one works - it is drawings, watercolors and collages, created by the artist in the years 2001-2009. The exhibition includes nine thematic series, each of which one way or another connected with the work of the great Russian writer. They reflect Gogol's love for Italy, where he lived for many years and his passion for theater and the religious quest: "Portrait: A fantasy in the twenty-one sheet", "Diary Poprishchin", "Pompeii", "The kingdom of the dead", " Insects of the Apocalypse, "Theater", "Commedia dell'arte", "Witches' Sabbath" and "The Temptation of St. Anthony».

exhibition is open to the public from Dec. 2, 2009 until January 10 2010.
