Today, the Cultural Foundation «Catherine» a press conference and opening of an exhibition of David Lynch «Aura passion» (The Air is on Fire). This is the largest exhibition devoted to works by David Lynch as an artist visual arts, reflecting the whole spectrum of his artistic pursuit: painting, photography, drawing, lithography, experimental films and audio sketches, created from 1960 onwards. It was first shown the Foundation for Contemporary Art Cartier (Paris, 2007).

David Lynch was born in the state of Montana in 1946. In childhood, he has a lot of drawing and painting. In 1965 he entered the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (Philadelphia) to study painting. It gained a new breath of his love for moving images: Once, while working alone in his workshop, he saw a light wind from the slightly zatrepetali attached to the canvas items - and six months later, was set up his first experimental short film. All this has resulted in the light of one of the great cinematographers of the world - the youngest director in the history of Venice Film Festival, received the Golden Lion for his contribution to the history of cinema (September 2006). As a student in Philadelphia, David Lynch has paid great attention to the visual arts, is actively engaged in painting, photography, drawing. He also began to develop new areas of creativity - animation, music composition and work in the field of audio art.

Cartier Foundation has organized the largest to date, an exhibition of works of David Lynch, which allows you to look «backstage» studio artist and draws the viewer in the most important and at the same time, little-known moments of creative director. The idea of this exhibition was born in 2006, after getting acquainted with the workshop of David Lynch, filled with paintings, cabinets with black boxes and shelves personal archive folders with pictures. This well-preserved collection was created at a time when Lynch went to high school, but remained unknown to public. Many of the exhibits presented here belong to the Foundation Cartier. Their next show is accompanied by the sound created by the artist, creating a sense of very personal act, which gives us a unique opportunity to evaluate new ways of creative vision Lynch in an environment deeply individualized space.

Paintings, photographs and drawings by David Lynch reflects the experiences of his childhood, his youthful imagination and enthusiasm adulthood. Repeated theme home, conceals a potential threat is reflected in the dark images, performed mysterious signs and embodied in the different texture. The shocking sense of humor Lynch is in the development of a very serious topics that are devoted to his works, and is in keeping with the sarcastic comic techniques typical for even the most intricate plots of his films. Photos Lynch is also a feeling that runs through a variety of conditions associated with changes of mood and atmosphere: from the sensual and dreamy to dark and disturbing. In landscape pictures industrial pipe fittings, bridges or forgotten the factory buildings are depicted so that the whole composition acquires importance and gives the viewer an emotional response. Cycle «deformed Nude», created in 2004, a taboo on the use of black and white erotic photos which appeared between 1840 and 1940 years, which the author has altered with the help of digital technology so that the human body here, preserving its nature, is treated in the expressive -surrealistic form. Sketches and drawings by David Lynch - this is the most personal part of the whole body of his works. There are more than 500 works never previously exhibited in Russia, some of them had been established even in childhood, but they continue to serve for Lynch constant source of inspiration. They give us a unique opportunity, without any censor restrictions to look inside his creative workshop, where the particular relief to disclose the source of his inspiration, and becomes clearer all leitmotifs of his art.

The earliest short film shown in a small theater, which was made by the designer himself. It takes into account the peculiarities of the exhibition space and the Foundation «Catherine». The exhibition The Air is on Fire has been specially modified for the present exhibition - has added a number of previous exhibition of lithographs by David Lynch, who appear for the first time. These works were created during several trips to Paris, starting in 2007. They reflected the images of many previous works, refracted through the prism of a new art form.

David Lynch has worked with the Foundation Cartier, participating in the work on all aspects of this exhibition in the fund «Catherine», so that turned out a sort of «total work of art», which demonstrates not only the different facets of his creativity in the field of visual expressiveness, but also his interest in the nature of sound. We have an opportunity to see the inner springs of his creative process and to explore the fascinating and dizzying deep-universe artist.

Exhibition «Aura passion» (The Air is on Fire) in the Fund «Catherine» (Kuznetsky Bridge, 21/5, gate number 8, the entrance to the street. Bolshaya Lubyanka) is open to the public from April 11 on July 12, 2009 from 11.00 to 20.00 every day except Mondays.
