The exhibition presents works by the great Norwegian artist and the work of painters, whose work inspired him

At the Art Institute of Chicago hosts an exhibition devoted to works by Edward Munch (Edvard Munch). It presents 150 works executed by the great Norwegian artist and his contemporaries. According to curator Jay Clark (Jay Clarke), the main objective of the exhibition - to show us Munch art works of European painters from the second half of XIX century.

So much talk about how the paintings of Munch influenced the work of the representatives of the avant-garde: it is necessary only to recall the picture «cry», which was a real manifesto for the German expressionists. Despite the fact that Munch on this motion does not belong, many art lovers in the word «expressionism» remembers his famous image - lonely human figure, called a paroxysm of fear. The pain and despair - these are topics on which the artist has worked his entire life. In popular mythology created them occupied the same place as the world rickety van Gogh (Vincent van Gogh). Munch, and Van Gogh, is often considered an outsider, alone slopped out on the canvas his misfortune. Norwegian artist, and in fact was not a happy man: as a child he lost beloved mother and sister, another sister was in hospital for the mentally ill, and his brother had died just a few months after the wedding. Health painter was not the best, and to love him, too, not lucky.

But, unlike these artists, outsiders, who works in complete cultural isolation - have no understanding of the creative work of other authors and do not try to sell their works - Munch is actively trying to find a «place in the sun» in the European art world. Curator Jay Clark called it «sponge» - so active, he absorbed the influence of other artists. He studied painting in Norway, where he met with naturalism and impressionism, and in Paris, where he opened a Postimpressionism symbolism. The exhibition in Chicago, presented the work of 61 artists whose works have influenced the work of Munch. Among them - Van Gogh, Claude Monet (Claude Monet), Paul Gauguin (Paul Gauguin), James Ensor (James Ensor), Franz von Pieces (Franz von Stuck), Max Klinger (Max Klinger) and other famous painters.

separately should be said of the Scandinavian artists - contemporaries Munch. It is believed that he paid little attention to North picturesque tradition, but works on display at an exhibition in Chicago, argue that it does not. Many Norwegian authors, as well as Munch often used in his painting shades of blue and purple, and depicted on the pictures alone, thoughtful people. At the exhibition you can see the picture of compatriot Hans Munch Heyerdala (Hans Heyerdahl) «child dies», under the impression from which the artist wrote canvases «patient girl» and «Death in the sickroom». Work Heyerdala is one of the few works by Munch admired in his letters.

As a number of works by Munch exhibited in the Art Institute, includes the famous painting «Madonna», «alarm», «Kiss window», «Melancholia», «Moonlight», «A Night on the streets of Charles-Juhana» etc. «Creek» remained in Munch Museum in Oslo - instead it is presented with a lithograph by the same storyline. The exhibition will run until 26 April.
