The National Gallery of Scotland exhibited watercolors of famous British artist William Turner, Joseph Mellorda

New Year in the Scottish National Gallery is always greeted with a traditional annual exhibition. From 1 to 31 January in the halls of the museum exhibits watercolor famous and very beloved British artist Joseph Mellorda William Turner (Joseph Mallord William Turner).

This work go to the gallery in 1899, a legacy from the London-based collector Henry Vogan (Henry Vaughan). He acquired samples for each period of the creative artist's career, selecting and evaluating each of them look connoisseur. Among them are the early watercolors and 1790's, and more recent drawings, made by the author in continental Europe in 1830-1840-s. According to the owner of a will, the fragile works on display for more than 100 years, but only in January, because at this time of year the intensity of natural light is minimal, and thus they are most protected from fading. Perhaps it is because of such restrictions on the display of these works, and retained their bright, radiant colors.

In the late 1790's, at the beginning of his creative path Turner made several trips to the mountains of North Wales; impression from these trips have had a profound influence on the artist. Ambitious and inevitable natural phenomenon of fear, sometimes even terrify, but always admired Turner, like many writers and artists of the XVIII century. The ability to express these feelings in landscape painting and lead the young artist in the mountains of Britain and the continent. He sought to capture the indomitable, primeval forces, manifested in avalanches, storms and huge waves.

Turner visited in Italy. He visited Venice three times: in 1819, 1833 and 1840 years. The collection of Henry Vogan has six magnificent scenery of the city. In one of the studies, «Pyatsetta. Venice », the Doges Palace lightens up a bright flash of lightning. This unusual effect, the artist sought so that «soskrebal» top layer of paper on which he wrote. For most of his life and career of Turner often took orders for book illustrations, and many of his trips were related to specific projects publications. This aspect of his art is also represented in the exhibition. For example, visitors can see some images created for the collection edition of poetry and prose of Walter Scott.

Turner exhibition, which runs this year, is a sort of «rehearsal» before another exhibition devoted to this illustrious British master. It is called «Turner and Italy», and is scheduled for spring 2009. The artist was fascinated by climate, landscape and architecture of Italy, has always admired her, so the main theme of the exhibition will be a close relationship between the artist and of the southern country.
